There isn't a better way to get out of a style rut than with a pop of color. Fall and winter were all about minimalist colors. Tans, whites, blacks, greys and greens but at last summer is here and it’s all about bright and prints.

Hot pink sandals are a must have this year. I’ve expressed my indifference for the color pink, but a cute shoe is a cute shoe. I envisioned some interesting looks and that sealed the deal. For this look I wanted the shoes to really stand out so I chose to go with a black and white color story. This ensured that my shoes really popped.

Here are two effective ways to style a pop of color:

1. Use a complimentary color. There is no time like summer time to rock bold colors together. Bright pinks with yellow, cobalt blue with chartreuse, and reds with oranges…the list goes on and on. We are far from our matchy matchy days. Don’t be afraid to take risks with color blocking. You’d be surprised just how stylish it turns out. If you want to go another route, consider the next option, a print.

2. Use a complimentary print. I don’t know about you but I plan to live in great prints this summer. I went with black and white printed pants for this look because I knew it compliment my shoes. Black and white is neutral; you can’t go wrong with adding a pop of color with any black and white look. I usually look for a color on the print obvious or not and grab a pair of shoes close to said color. It works.

I'm so looking forward to more major prints and colors this summer. How do you style your pops of color?
